conrats bro!
i see your promotion doesn't keep you from being able to post fine forearm posts! :hyper: so that's nice!
your comment about the money amount made me think about how you might has thoughts after a few months of income that are like, :shocking: how is it i make this much?!
this happens to me anyway, tho it's more- how is it WE make this much? since it's the combination that is key for us.
it sounds like you probably make more than us now. tho when you factor in the high tax you pay + cost of living it probably still comes out in our favor, but not by much i bet.
anyway, it seems crazy at times. hence how we're planning our semi-retirement.

conrats bro! i see your promotion doesn't keep you from being able to post fine forearm posts! :hyper: so that's nice! it has slowed it down. there are actual days when i literally don't have time or opportunity to post. ;sadbanana; though! things are looking up and starting to normalize. part of the issue was having to hire people to replace me and another person who retired. between interviewing horrible people, hiring people, training people... it has been a lot. but now those people are hired and (mostly) trained and i'm not doing the work of 3 people. just 1.5 or so. crazy times. yeah it is pretty, pretty, pretty crazy. it has kind of hit me in waves. like, the first time they told me what i was going to be making i kind of thought they were kidding. and that happened a couple months before it ended up going into effect. so i'm like, sure sure i'll believe it when i see it. then it went into effect for my second check of april and so i'm trying to calculate what my check is gonna look like ahead of time and it's just... ;headscratch; that can't be right. then the check hits... and it's like.. ehh.. wtf do i do with all this? literally never had this problem before in my life. so now i've started a Roth IRA for both me and the mrs and am maxing them out... and now am just like ehh ;dunno; we did have to put in a new furnace a couple weeks ago. cost like $4700. i'm like ok do it whatever. like, it doesn't affect my day to day in the slightest. BROTHER. IT'S PRETTY GRETA I GOTTA SAY!!$@#$#@ not sure! we can compare numbers and notes when we gets together next week. definitely crazy. i'm just trying to sock away as much as i can while not taking it for granted or letting lifestyle creep hit me too hard.

brother! it is fairly money-centric yes! i'm THE CMO BITCH!@# u yes. of course it varies year to year. but, over 50%. yes. of course i have to estimate the value of our house we live in, which is tricky. what would it look like in IA to live similarly, and what would that cost us? I don't know. that's cool. nice to have options. london's cool. we could probably meat u for vaca sometime. would have to work within our break schedule of course. or are we just writing you some guide to follow?
OK!@ TEXT US WHERE TO GO NEXT! :B
worst guides evar respond: THE LOOV! GOD DAMN IT!@ THAT'S NOT THE RITE CITY!@#
yeah. there are other tax shelter things you can place ur money in that have various pluses and minuses. but any savings that is long term should be tax sheltered, in my mind. otherwise u gots teh pay da taxes ovur dare on ur gains! :B and when possible you want to postpone ur tax payments. usually in retirement you'll be in a lower tax bracket. you should probably get an investment person. we like the guys we use. they're the same ones mom and dad use. their office in Eldridge, not super convenient for you, but you can do most things remote i believe. but it's all about trust for people like this. but it's great to talk to an expert who can offer you options and suggestions based on your situation.

yes. of course it varies year to year. but, over 50%. yeah with mah raise i'm stuck somewhere arounf 25% for the moment. which is good and i am not complaining about! ;duck; hopefully you can begin to figure that owt starting this summer, eh? also ehh... hopefully the rates and stuff go down some before you have to actually start borrowing money and building stef!!! GO 2 A RESTRANT! :B ugh i really thought hasing a guide would be better than this!!@#$ doesn't HAVE to be london, i just know u guys has been there. and does teh wife still has a sister or something that lives there? would be cool to see another country like that with people who has done it before is all. OH AND THAT WE LIKE! of course, you know, people we like. not just hired guide hands. anyway it is pure future speculation at the moment. don't even have a time or year in mind just brainstorming. yeah i'm at the weird cutoff where i won't get a traditional IRA deduction cuz we make too much so i'm not sure what the optimal money allocation is. i do know i want to max out our ROTH IRAs, which you deposit into with after tax dollars, but all of the gains are tax free. Maybe for now the correct answer is simply maxing out my 401k also. which is tax deductible today and ur withdrawls are taxed later. then if i still has money left i dun no. but 401k you can plow like $27,000 into so that would pretty much use up all mah extra money. at least this year. probably overthinking it tbh. but i also have a "business" where i can take writeoffs and stuff so it would probably pay for me to get legit tax and estate planning expertise.

yeah with mah raise i'm stuck somewhere arounf 25% for the moment. which is good and i am not complaining about! ;duck; also, the percentage is different depending on whether ur talking gross or net. also we have gross, then i have like a relative gross that i've talked about calculating. like what our gross would have to be if we lived in the states but ended up with the same net. i feel like that is a more accurate number if comparing earnings to someone in US. i don't know how close we'll come to that. i guess i loog at it more like where we currently live is equivalent to renting some place for $1000-2000/month. but it's weird, cuz if we were paying, we would never rent the place we're in. of course, it's just a theoretical number to compare the value of us living here. so i usually go with $1000-1500/month since that's closer to wad we would be willing to pay if we had a fancy place in IA, probably.
yes, hopefully. we're a ways away from that still. luckily. hopefully we make some headway on that next summer. we'll be lucky to barely get the ball rolling this summer.
i guess you were hoping angie was going to be the deciding factor here. which to be honest, is the key thing that actually makes this silly and not how it would be. yes regarding sister. i mean, Christie doesn't live in London. she lives about an hour out... ish. i think. a bit more. depends how you get there - drive vs. train. but anyway, london is cool. we could also do something fun and cool like scotland, which we've never been, but want. or something like that. sounds like 401K is great option. the nice thing about talking to expert is having options presented that possibly you didn't know existed or possibly dismissed because didn't fully understand advantage or whatever. i think u has it in hand, but u can decide. i believe most of these financial planner folks you can talk to with no obligation. the ones we use we don't even pay. they get commission from the companies they sign you up with. but if you consult and decided to just go it on your own ur out nothing.
regarding the commish, that's why i think it important that you has some trust. like we don't feel like they are pushing us to stuff just to get commission. like they get it from all the options that are available so i think it doesn't matter that much to them. also they would rather have long term customers than have people find out they were duped into stupid investments. but, it's obviously something you think about. do his and my best interests actually align? i think they do for us. :dunno:

ANYway. and super familiar etc. not that england is probably that difficult to navigate. :B yeah i know in the last decade or so there's been a big shakeup in the financial advice field. if you find a fiduciary person they get paid based on your total assets under mgmt or whatever, so the higher that number goes, they get paid more. and higher numbers is wad u want when investing! number go up. :B whereas historically, if you have say a "broker" they get a cut of each transaction so they want you buying and selling all the time. actual result dun matter. or some insurance products they get a cut of your premium forever and all they did was the initial sale. it's an AMAZING deal for them. doesn't mean it isn't right for you necessarily, but it's always a bit with those guys. and yes, you have to trust 1) that your interests actually align and 2) they are good at it and have actual expertise. oh also now there are regs that make these guys disclose how they get paid! and how much. where before they could sort of hide it in nebulous plan fees and fine print. see, if i saw a guy and he told me: you know what, until you're maxxing out your 401k none of these other products make sense for you. i would trust him BIGTIME! and go back to him when i DID has extra and wanted advice.

i suppose. if one wanted to compare apples to apples. or pears to pears. or other fruits to other fruits. these are the comparisons i go in for. yes, tho we do have to buy some extra electricity sometimes. but that isn't much and should go down now as they are increasing our electricity stipend.
internet is deducted from my paycheck so when i loog at net pay that's already been subtracted. so i just don't track that stuff and act like it's paid for. but technically we are paying for it. they show 2 things on pay statement, Utilities (telephone/internet) and electricity. but the electricity is WAY to low to be accurate. since we have to buy it when we run out i know it costs way more than their showing, but maybe Angie's check has a bigger deduction. i've never looked.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
hmm. sounds like $1500/month is pretty conservative an estimate then for comparable home cost. but whatever. we don't plan on it, no. a bit too rustic even for us. no water. no toilet. no nothing. a bit much.
i plan on going up there with Matt one day and try to hack out some trails with a weed wacker and machete and a mini-chainsaw and stuff. see how far we can get. well, maybe. and if she did. i imagine them being vastly better than my tips! i really want to go to scotland. not sure how important familiarity is when talking places like scotland, england, and well, anywhere in europe really. pretty easy. it's not like you go to scotland and everybody speaks celtic and just shrugs and offers u scotch and stuff. *gives u amber liquid and points to mouth* absolutley. you can of course combine listening to them with ur own research and then you could has a decent idea if they full of crap and just trying to milk you (:leer:) or what. and i think that is what the good ones do. we'll make enough on our satisified customers or whatever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It would be the week after we get back from Galena. Some day between the 12th and 14th. I think matt is leaning towards 12th but it's still up in the air. it will be quite a hoot and it'd be pretty great if you joined. matt is going to be in costume so... i'll have to tell angie you want NON-intellectual tips. like where they could go for a good double doinking or whatever. :dunno: well, maybe! ireland wasn't like that. there was one bar where they spoke some sort of irish celtic something or other. so maybe scotland is even more so. one thing is even if they do speak english it will be with that sweet accent!! well, yes. but there's an upcharge. it's not looking good.
